Staff Bios


Chelsy Smith

Chelsy competed as a compulsory gymnast through the USAG program as a kid and has been coaching ever since. Her experience ranges from teaching preschool to coaching advanced competitive teams and has been certified as a spotting specialist through high level skills. Most recently, she served as the Assistant Director of both compulsory/Xcel teams and recreational gymnastics at a gym in Northern New Mexico. Chelsy also has extensive classical ballet training and spent some time as a member of a dance performance company (mostly has a tap dancer) after her time as a gymnast. She also was a cheerleader for several years and loves working as a stunt coach. Chelsy loves working with kids of all ages! She also loves classical music, competitive tennis and riding fixed-gear bicycles.

Michelle Armstrong

Michelle grew up in Wisconsin and participated in gymnastics, cheer, and several styles of dance ranging from ballet to tap to Irish. Once reaching high school, she was able to compete on both the varsity cheer and gymnastics teams at the state level. After moving to Arizona in 2005, she began competing with Desert Storm Elite Cheer on their International College Open Level 6 Team. In the same year, she also began her first job, coaching gymnastics in Gilbert at Olympic Gymnastics, where she remained until the summer of 2012. Besides coaching at Flip Dunk, she is currently the head coach of the Valley View Elementary cheer team in South Phoenix.

In her free time, Michelle likes reading, traveling, camping, and cooking. She has been to the Grand Canyon over a hundred times, and hopes to one day complete the Arizona Trail. She has an 8 year-old son named Carter, a one-eyed Chihuahua named William, and a fat, orange cat named Leo.



Esther was born and raised on Oahu, Hawaii. She graduated as valedictorian from Kalaheo High School in 2016. She participated in ballet for the duration of elementary school (over five years). From 2004-2013 she was a level 8 competitive gymnast for Kokokahi Gymnastics Team, until she decided to switch to cheerleading full time her freshman year of high school. She competed on her high school’s varsity cheerleading team from 2012-2016. While she was on the team, they became international champions at the Americheer International Championships held at Disney World. In 2014, she was on 808 All Star Cheerleading’s level 5 team until she had to stop for surgery due to a tumbling injury. She has been coaching gymnastics from October 2014 to present. She is currently attending Grand Canyon University and will start the nursing program in the spring of 2018 as a junior.

Esther has a 17-year-old sister, Deborah, and 13-year-old brother, Daniel. She has a fat cat with green eyes named Maddie, a silver cat who lives to cuddle named Quicksilver, and rambunctious, redhead Basenji named Spartacus who will be three on Halloween.


Star Pettway

Star Pettway, or is a twenty year old gymnastics coach with a passion for teaching and the color purple. As an ex-gymnast and aspiring dancer, she loves being able to spread her knowledge. Star started gymnastics at the age of thirteen. Through hard work and determination, she reached level three within nine months before deciding to compete as Xcel Bronze. At the age of sixteen, she became a coach at Warren Gymnastics center, where she also competed as Xcel Silver. After quitting gymnastics due to physical limitations, she started taking dance classes at a local dance studio, studying ballet and modern alongside volunteering as a teacher assistant and mentor to younger dancers.

Having homeschooled for the majority of her life, Star is currently a sophomore in college. She is studying Elementary Education with an emphasis on Special Education, with a double major in Dance, and she hopes to become a special education teacher after graduating with a Bachelor's in Special Education.

Star has taught gymnastics recreationally for levels one through three, pre-team, and pre-school/developmental levels. At her previous gym in Surprise, Arizona, she also started, taught, and lead a accessible program for gymnasts with special needs called “Bright Stars”, working with a diverse selection of students with varying needs and abilities. Star is a safety certified member of USAG with years of experience with childcare and teaching. She is always looking for opportunities to extend her knowledge as an educator so as to ensure that her students reach their full potentials.

In her spare time, Star reads and writes. She is rarely seen with wearing at least one purple article of clothing and loves learning, alongside spending time being silly with her beautiful six year old brother.


Bianca Libero

Bianca competed in gymnastics since she was 10 years old and stoped when she reached level 9. Throughout her gymnastics career she has accomplished many things such as wining first place in the all around devision at the Western National Competition in 2015. After her gymnastics career she made the varsity cheer team at Horizon High School. Bianca coaches a range of gymnastics levels such as the competitive Excel team and also beginning gymnastics classes. Bianca is finishing up her senior year at Horizon High School and is planning on going to college to become a physical therapist.  

Jenna Jennah Dalton

My name is jennah dalton and I did cheer for about 5 years. My love for cheer started off at flip dunk when I was in middle school and it encouraged me to do high school cheer. I am currently a senior in high school and can not wait to graduate to go to college.
Emmanuel Moore Emily Tutnick

My Name is Emily and I am a nationally and internationally ranked baton twirler. I have been twirling for 8 years and dancing for over 15 years! I am a freshman in college and love working with kids! I began twirling in 6th grade and found a true passion in it! Twirling has taken me all over the country and even around the world! I am also passionate about dancing. I love teaching kids how to find their passion in movement! I danced all throughout my childhood and even was on my high school’s performance dance company. I also twirled for all 4 years of high school as the featured twirler! I am so happy to be working here at Flip Dunk and I cannot wait to share my passion for baton and dance!
Emmanuel Moore Emmanuel Moore

Emmanuel Moore, widely known as Kunta, has performed with Master of Ceremony and Hip Hop legend KRS ONE. Founder of Mellow Drama Crew (1996), he possesses two decades of performance and competition experience. Recognized as a “breakin” powerhouse in the valley of the sun, Kunta offers his knowledge and skill, works professionally, and centers his communication on progress; highlighting strengths while developing kinetic movement and mindful improvisation. Essentially, Kunta facilitates a positive learning environment for personal and group growth, emphasizing the importance of dedication, determination, and discipline through dance.

The freestyle hip hop class is a trek designed to develop the strengths of each student and instill fundamental principles of movement. The focus of the class is centered on student improvement. Through progressive conditioning, diverse choreography, and mindful improvisation, students will accumulate confidence, exercise patience and celebrate improvement with every step.
Reagan Wright Reagan Wright

My name is Reagan Wright and I have over ten years of cheerleading and dancing experience. When I was four I was involved in both dance and gymnastics. After my gymnastics career ended, I continued to pursue my cheerleading and dancing career. In elementary school I was apart of a cheerleading club and that experience led me to develop a passion for cheerleading. In middle school I was on the cheerleading team for both years and when I entered high school I was apart of the team up until my sophomore year. Also, while I was in High School I was apart of the dance program for all four years and was lucky enough to be in the Advanced Dance level.

I am currently a sophomore studying Business Management at Grand Canyon University. I have been fortunate enough to sub several different cheer and dance classes at Flip Dunk but am excited to begin teaching my own classes!
